A man has been jailed for five years for historic sex offences against a young girl.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how Brian Bottley carried out the abuse when he was a teenager during the late 1970s and early 1980s in Dudley.

Bottley was arrested in 2020, but denied everything in interview, calling the allegations lies and trying to suggest she could not possibly remember what had happened.

However, the 61-year-old from Wolverhampton changed his plea to guilty and was jailed for five years at the city's Crown Court, as well as being placed on the sex offenders' register.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Police began investigating Bottley when the survivor bravely came forward years later to tell us about the abuse.

"We would urge anyone who knows or thinks they have suffered sexual abuse in the past to contact us and tell us your story. In doing so you could secure justice for yourself and others.

"We have a dedicated team of officers who investigate non-recent sexual offences.

"They treat all cases seriously and will investigate any reports they receive."
