A football club hopes new flood-lights will help it climb up the league pyramid.

Coventry Copsewood has lodged plans for the new lights at its ground on Allard Way.

The existing ones are 30 years old and the club says they are only just bright enough for the Midland League Division One, where it currently plays.

The 102-year-old club also said modern lights were more efficient and produced less light pollution.

By contrast, the current lights were “expensive to use and maintain”, officials said.

In the planning application, they said up to date lighting “will also enable successful progression up the football pyramid in the future".

The Football Foundation has promised to meet 70% of the replacement costs, the club said.

The application noted the closest homes were 250m (820ft) away and said the lights would be used between November and Easter each year.
