Police in Medway have seized seven e-scooters and two electric bikes during a road safety operation targeting dangerous drivers and unsafe vehicles.

Kent Police said the operation in Rochester and Strood on Tuesday followed concerns raised by people living nearby.

A total of 59 offences were recorded, including driving without a licence or insurance, using a mobile at the wheel and not wearing seatbelts.

The force was joined by Environment Agency and Medway Council officers as 12 vehicles carrying waste were stopped for checks.

Insp Paul Diddams said: "Local people have shared their concerns and we are determined to target illegal drivers and, where appropriate, remove their vehicles from public roads.

"This enforcement will be repeated throughout the rest of the year across Medway.

"Our message is simple, if you are driving an unsafe and illegal vehicle, electric bike or e-scooter, be prepared to have it seized and face being reported."
