Man carried out eight knifepoint robberies in city

A man who robbed eight people at knifepoint in the space of 24 hours has been jailed.

Seye Djli targeted victims across Leicester on 12 and 13 October, with a number of phones being stolen during the incidents.

But some victims were able to track their phones which led police to the city's Bede Park, where Djli was arrested.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Police said the robberies occurred in Jarrom Street, Mill Lane Bridge, Bede Park, Briton Street, Bath Lane, Newarke Street, Mill Stone Lane and Town Hall Square.

When he was arrested, a search by police found five mobile phones, a bank card and a knife.

'Extremely terrifying'

A search of Djli’s home in Cambridge Street, Leicester, then led to the discovery of two more phones.

He was identified by some of the victims in an ID parade and CCTV evidence from the area confirmed Djli was the suspect, said police.

At a hearing in November, Djli pleaded guilty to six counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery and two counts of possession of a bladed weapon.

PC Austin Bruce, of Leicestershire Police, said: "These incidents were extremely terrifying for the victims, most of whom were approached while they were alone and in the early hours of the morning.

"Djli threatened them with a knife and demanded property, in six of those eight incidents he was successful in stealing property."
