Plans to convert a Methodist church in Grimsby into a home have been approved.

A proposal by Grimsby-based Will Capital Ltd to transform Humberston Methodist Church, off Humberston Avenue, into a home with four or more bedrooms was given the go ahead by North East Lincolnshire Council.

The design includes an open-plan living room and kitchen.

There were no objections from council officers and the process took less than three months for permission to be granted.

Three car parking spaces would be created, with a gravel drive, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Part of the rear of the church would be replaced by outdoor ceramic paving.

Ettridge Architecture Ltd stated in an application document the Methodist church is keen to ensure sites are sold off to individuals and organisations that respect the buildings and can afford the necessary upkeep.

Will Capital Ltd was also behind the project to convert Beaconthorpe Church in Cleethorpes into apartments.

Repeated reference was made to Beaconthorpe Church, with the hope a decision on the Humberston application could be decided quicker.

Because of its Grade II listing and flood risk issues, the application to turn Beaconthorpe into apartments took two years.

A fire, investigated as arson, caused extensive damage to the Cleethorpes church in October 2023.

Storms have also damaged the now roofless structure.

An application was made in spring 2024 for urgent repairs to its windows and wall openings. It currently remains pending.
