Final day of Manx Grand Prix delayed by wet roads
- Published
The start to the final day of racing at the Manx Grand Prix has been delayed due to rain showers over the island.
Roads had been due to close around the 37.73-mile (60km) Mountain Course at 09:30 BST, but that was pushed back to 14:00.
After disruption due to the weather and a red flag incident in Saturday’s Junior Manx Grand Prix (MGP), organisers have been unable to run a full race in the 2024 programme.
As a result of the morning’s delays, the planned restart of Saturday’s abandoned race has been scrapped and the result declared on the standing at the end of lap one.
The truncated schedule will see all the remaining races run over reduced lengths.
The Classic Senior MGP and Classic Junior MGP will run together over one lap, while the Senior MGP, Lightweight MGP and Classic Superbike MGP will all be two laps each.
The continued disruption to the race schedule follows a week of qualifying marred by delays and cancellations, which pushed racing back by a day to Saturday.
Irish racer Louis O'Regan died after crashing during the meeting's opening day of qualifying on 18 August, and poor weather led to the cancellation of all of the event's evening practice sessions.
