Crematorium services to move during hospital works
- Published
Funeral services at the crematorium in Jersey are moving to a temporary site while work on the new hospital at Overdale takes place.
The government said services would be moved to the members room of the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RJA&HS) in Trinity from Spring 2025 to avoid any disturbance to ceremonies.
The Jersey Crematorium is situated next to Overdale, where construction is expected to increase in 2025.
The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Tom Binet, said crematorium services could "continue to be delivered with privacy and dignity" during the construction period.
He said: "I would also like to emphasise that, while the service aspect of the funeral proceedings will be temporarily relocated, interments, cremations and the use of the Garden of Remembrance will remain at the existing Overdale location.
"Unlike the demolition phase, where work could be paused at the Overdale site during funeral services to minimise disruption, construction activities are much more difficult to stop due to the scale and complexity of the work involved."
The government said services would return to the crematorium once work had ended and cremations, interments and the use of the Garden of Remembrance would remain at the existing Overdale location.
