Hospital multi-storey car park opens after delay

The five-storey car park at the Royal Derby Hospital is now open for use

A new five-storey car park at the Royal Derby Hospital has opened.

The car park, which will create an additional 500 spaces, was due to open to visitors on Monday, but the hospital said the final details were still being completed.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, confirmed the car park opened on Wednesday afternoon.

Construction on the site began in October 2024.

The trust had previously encouraged patients and visitors to use a temporary park-and-ride service at Kingsway Boulevard while there were fewer parking spaces available at the hospital during the building work.

From 18:30 GMT on Friday, the free-to-use park-and-ride service will be closed.
