'Monster' who murdered partner given life sentence

A man who murdered his partner by stabbing her more than a dozen times has been given a life sentence.
Anthony Hoey killed Frances Dwyer, 48, at a house on Mulwych Road in Tile Cross, Birmingham, in the early hours of 30 March, 2024.
The 50-year-old fled the scene in a stolen car before being stopped by police who used a Taser after he claimed to have a gun.
Hoey, of Hall Road, Handsworth, pleaded guilty to murder, two counts of theft, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving and was given a life prison sentence, with a minimum term of 21 years, at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday.

In a statement released by West Midlands Police, Ms Dwyer's family said: "No amount of time will be justice for what happened to our mom and daughter.
"It's almost a year since that monster took her life and it still hurts us every single day.
"We finally have some closure today, as we see that man be sentenced."
In a personal message to Ms Dwyer, they said: "You are always in our hearts and thought about every single day.
"A piece of us will always be missing, but we know you're watching over us and keeping us safe."
