Council to start work on new city centre bus lane
- Published
Work on a new contraflow bus lane in Exeter city centre is due to start on Monday, Devon County Council said.
The new bus lane would create a cut through for buses travelling along New North Road directly onto Sidwell Street.
The new route will be 0.3 miles (0.5km) shorter and more direct, reducing journey times.
Buses, bicycles and emergency vehicles would be able to use the route and work was expected to take three weeks to complete, according to a council spokesperson.
They added that there would be two weeks of night time closures, between 19:00 BST and 06:00 BST from Monday, 24 June to the Friday, 28 June and from Monday, 8 July to Friday, 12.
The scheme followed a consultation held last summer, which was approved in October 2023.
It was just one of the improvements being made by the local authority to improve bus services across the county detailed in the Bus Service Improvement Plan.
