A graffiti-covered wall in Worcester is due for a makeover thanks to work by students and a local artist.

Rob Draper, a Worcester-born artist, worked with art pupils from the University of Worcester to design a mural celebrating the city’s musical heritage.

It will be painted on the wall between the new Elizabeth Garrett Anderson building and the Green Self Storage building on the walkway between Hylton Road and Hardwicke Close, the university said.

Work to create the mural is scheduled to begin from about 10 April and take about six days to complete.

The design includes a quote from Edward Elgar, the Worcestershire-born composer.

"Working with the university students has been effortless," Mr Draper said.

"It has been creative and engaging, throwing in ideas, and experimenting, trying different concepts and they’re all committed to making it as good a project as it can be."

Inclusivity would be part of the project with a poem written by one of the students added in text and braille at either end of the mural, the university added.

Student Cosmin Popescu was part of the project and said "people who have visual impairments deserve to know that there are artists out there who have them in mind".
