Critical incidents declared at a number of Merseyside hospitals last week have been stood down.

Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Aintree University Hospital, Arrowe Park Hospital and Whiston Hospital all issued alerts due to soaring patient demand and waiting times.

University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG) and Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust were affected.

According to UHLG, high levels of flu, other respiratory illnesses and winter bugs put pressure on accident and emergency units.
