Skydivers, daredevil stunts and a swooping Spitfire were the among the highlights as thousands of spectators gathered for the spectacular Southport Air Show.

Families and plane enthusiasts were treated to displays from high-tech jets, vintage warplanes and death-defying feats from wing walkers and sky divers during the event.

Sefton Council said its programme would be "spectacular occasion" for "families, friends, aviation buffs, and first-time visitors alike".

The weekend displays could been seen from the ticket-only cordoned-off beach area or any vantage point in the town.
