Confusion over heavy gunfire in Tripoli

The Libyan government says its supporters have been celebrating in Tripoli by firing into the air, after its troops recaptured a key oil port in the East of the country.

The bursts of intense gunfire started shortly after dawn in the Libyan capital. There have also been reports of fighting in other parts of Libya, with both the government and rebel groups claiming successes.

The BBC's Wyre Davies said machinegun and heavy weapons fire could be heard across the city.
