Japanese embassies hit by protests in China islands row

Chinese communities in a number of cities around the world have held protests outside Japanese embassies, over the continued row over a group of disputed islands.

The uninhabited but resource-rich islands are controlled by Japan and also claimed by Taiwan. The islands have long been a point of contention and recent tension has led to fears of a naval conflict.

Several major Japanese companies have also suspended operations in China after attacks on shops and car dealerships.

Bill Hayton reports.
