Muslim Brotherhood spokesman: 'Pro-Morsi camp attacked'
Speaking from Cairo, Muslim Brotherhood media spokesman Gehad el-Haddad has told the BBC that the central pro-Morsi protest in the city has been attacked by "thugs with machine guns".
Mr Haddad said that ousted President Mohammed Morsi was under house arrest. Earlier the army announced that Mr Morsi was no longer in office.
The army's move follows four days of mass street demonstrations against Mr Morsi - Egypt's first freely elected president - and an ultimatum issued by the military which expired on Wednesday afternoon.
