'Don't die of ignorance', bowel cancer survivor warns

A bowel cancer survivor has said a screening programme launched in the Isle of Man in 2011 saved his life.

Brian O'Hanlon, who finished chemotherapy last year, said: "Don't die of ignorance, don't put the card in the draw and forget about it.

"I had no symptoms whatsoever. Bowel cancer can kill."

Since the programme was launched, 15 cases of cancer have been detected.

The Isle of Man's Department of Health has announced it is to extend the age group of those offered screening, to cover 70-75 year olds.
