House prices 'likely to continue on downward trend'

House prices fell by 0.7% during October according to the Nationwide Building Society, putting the average cost of a home at just over £164,000.

The more reliable three-month on three-month comparison showed prices fell by 1.5% in October.

Nationwide's Chief Economist, Martin Gahbauer, told the BBC that more positive GDP figures may help to encourage people into the market over the coming year.
