Youth unemployment reaches record high

Official jobless figures show that unemployment is continuing to rise and is now at the highest level for 17 years.

The Office for National Statistics says the jobless total rose by 129,000 in the three months to September.

That brings the total number of unemployed people in Britain up to 2.62 million.

Youth unemployment is at a record high.

There are 1.02 million young people, aged 16 to 24, out of work.
