The BBC's Robert Peston analyses Cable's leaked letter
Vince Cable has accused the government of failing to have "a compelling vision of where the country is heading beyond sorting out the fiscal mess".
The business secretary's comments came in a letter to Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg that has been leaked to the BBC.
Mr Cable added the government needed to show more leadership in supporting key technologies.
He also called for Royal Bank of Scotland to be split up.
The BBC's business editor, Robert Peston, analysed the contents of the letter.
