Easyjet beats tough winter as it narrows losses

It has been a tough winter for Europe's airline industry - with much of the region in recession and the cost of fuel soaring.

The crisis has already put two smaller airlines in Spain and Denmark out of business.

However the budget airline Easyjet appears to be bucking the trend.

It says revenues in the six months to March were up some 15% - that has helped it cut first half losses.

Carolyn McCall is chief executive of Easyjet and she told the BBC it has been a good first half for the airline despite losses of £112m.
