Business Bites: Will the ECB resume buying Spanish bonds?

After a week which saw unemployment rates and borrowing costs hit record highs in Spain, speculation is mounting across the markets that the European Central Bank could resume its programme of buying Spanish bonds to help ease the pressure on the beleaguered country.

It comes after German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Mario Montii said they would "do everything possible to protect the Eurozone". The comments came in a joint statement following a telephone conversation on Sunday.
