Labour says energy policy 'thrown into confusion'

The prime minister's pledge to force energy companies to offer their lowest tariff has "confused" the government's policy, the shadow energy secretary has said.

Caroline Flint accused David Cameron of making policy "on the hoof".

Energy minister John Hayes told the House of Commons that legislation will be brought forward which will help consumers "get the best deal" on their gas and electricity bills.
