'Exceptionally disappointing' loan figures - Labour

The fall in lending by UK banks is "exceptionally disappointing" Labour's shadow treasury minister has said.

Chris Leslie told BBC News that a lack of finance was holding back the economy, and many firms were "exasperated" by the difficulty in obtaining loans.

But the Bank of England has announced that net lending fell by more than £2.4bn in the final quarter of last year.
