The car that sees and talks to pedestrians

Cars that can drive themselves may seem like the technology of TV and films, but research is under way which could make this sci-fi vision a reality.

But that raises a problem for pedestrians - how will you know whether it's safe to cross the road, if you can't look the driver in the eye?
