'Lessons learnt' from West Coast franchise fiasco

The government has learnt "a considerable amount" after the West Coast Main Line franchise bidding process.

Companies have been invited to tender for the East Coast line, which has been run by the public sector since National Express pulled out of the franchise in 2009.

Transport Minister Simon Burns told BBC News that putting the business back into the private sector would improve the service.
