UK GDP figures 'a bumpy upward trend', says the ONS

The UK economy has avoided a triple-dip recession after it grew by 0.3% in the first three months of the year.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has set out its preliminary GDP figures for the first quarter of 2013.

Joe Grice from ONS said: "We have been on a plateau, with a gentle upward trend, and quite a bumpy one".
