Nespresso loses high court battle over coffee pods

Nestle brand Nespresso has lost its latest High Court battle to protect its design after the patent on its aluminium coffee pods expired in 2011.

This could be good news for the firm's rivals and lead to cheaper prices for consumers.

However, the government has just scrapped plans to make it easier for businesses to obtain a patent - so could this be bad for innovation leading to new products?
