Scottish Power: Energy suppliers all face same increases

Scottish Power has been explaining why it has become the fourth of the "big six" energy suppliers to raise prices.

Neil Clitheroe, chief executive of energy retail and generation for Scottish Power, said new expenses for carbon emissions, windfarms and insulation added up to a "much bigger number".

He denied power companies were acting like a cartel, saying: "The fact is that everybody faces the same increase in cost... gas and electricity in a global market, the costs of wires and pipes, environmental obligations."
