EDF energy prices to rise by 3.9% from January

EDF says average gas and electricity bills will rise by 3.9% from January - but points out the rise is half that of rivals.

But the company has warned that there could be further price increases if the government does not make its expected reduction in the "green levy" on energy bills.

Meanwhile Energy Secretary Ed Davey has told gas and electricity firms that they risk being perceived like "greedy bankers" - and must not treat customers as "cash cows".

Simon Gompertz reports.
