Zero-hour contracts: A tale of two experiences

Zero-hour contracts have been unfairly demonised, and many people who use them are happier than the average UK employee, according to a study.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development report found that although 38% of people surveyed wanted more hours, they were just as satisfied with their job as people on regular contracts.

Council worker Chris from Lincolnshire told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "It was the ideal way of working - if I didn't have [one] then maybe I'd be out there claiming benefits. It gives me the dignity of having a job."

However Edinburgh hotel worker Rachel was less than impressed, claiming that although initially it was "great," the lack of regular work pushed her into her overdraft.
