Fuel bill cuts are 'brainless', claims energy campaigner

The chancellor, George Osborne, has confirmed plans to reduce energy bills by £50 a year.

It will be achieved by moving green levies and some of the subsidies for those in fuel poverty into general taxation.

However Ed Matthew, from the campaign group Energy Bill Revolution, told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "Slashing the insulation programme to fund a few quid off people's energy is brainless."

"By far the best thing to do to save energy and lower your bill is to actually insulate your home properly but... many people simply don't have the money".
