Osborne: '£50 off energy bills'

The chancellor, George Osborne, has announced plans to reduce energy bills by £50 a year.

He says that in the future, green levies will be paid for through general taxation, with the extra money coming from a clampdown on tax avoidance.

Homebuyers could also be given £1,000 to spend on energy-saving measures.
