Store sells discounted food to people on benefits

A shop in Barnsley is stocking heavily-discounted items, donated by big supermarkets, which would have otherwise been destined for the landfill.

It then sells them to people on certain welfare benefits.

Sarah Dunwell, from the organisation which runs the shop, says "people who are really struggling to stretch their household budgets should be able to access this food".

The scheme is designed to reduce food poverty and provide support services for people affected by the economic downturn.
