Total 'to invest in UK shale gas'

French oil and gas company Total is set to announce it is to invest in the UK's shale gas industry.

Total will be the first of the so-called "oil majors" to invest in shale gas in the UK.

The method of extracting this gas - known as fracking - has led to protests over fears it can cause environmental damage.
