Malaysia Prime Minister faces social media backlash over 'kangkung' comments

Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has been widely criticised on social media for comments he made about the price of kangkung, a type of spinach.

A YouTube video of Mr Razak responding to public gripes over rising food and fuel prices in the country recently went viral on the internet.

In the video, he said it was unfair for the government to be held responsible for increased food prices.

He claimed the weather is to blame and used the kangkung vegetable as an example.

However, his words did not have the intended effect and caused Mr Najib to become the subject of ridicule on social media instead.

The BBC's Jennifer Pak reports from Kuala Lumpur.
