UK economy: GDP grew 0.8% in first quarter of 2014

The UK economy has grown for the fifth consecutive period, the longest positive run since the financial crisis.

Gross Domestic Product grew by 0.8% in the first three months of 2014 - a slightly faster rate than the 0.7% recorded in the final quarter of last year.

Joe Grice, chief economist for the Office for National Statistics, said the economy had recovered most of the dip from the recession.
