Challenges for India's new government

After a six-week voting process in the world's largest democracy, India goes back to work today knowing results in the general election show the Bhartiya Janta Party, or BJP, will form the next government with a healthy majority.

The Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi now has a strong mandate for his pledges to revitalise the frail economy.

Some of the challenges Mr Modi will need to tackle include - creating 10 million jobs per year to keep pace with the nation's population growth; building new roads, power plants and airports; and keeping food prices under control.
