Firms' transparency 'key to equal pay'

Labour says it will force big firms to publish information on the pay gap between men and women, if it wins next year's general election.

It comes as research suggests that today is the day the average female worker in the UK starts working for free until the end of the year, because they are paid less than their male counterparts.

Labour's Shadow Minister for Women, Gloria De Piero, told the BBC that making firms open up will help make equal pay a reality.
