Unemployment: Young musician's plea for a job

The number of people out of work in the UK fell by 58,000 to 1.91 million, its lowest level for more than six years, in the three months to November 2014, official figures indicate.

However, the number of jobless 16 to 24-year-olds increased by 30,000 to 764,000 - the first quarterly rise since June to August 2013.

After dropping out of university, 23-year-old Sherika Sherard was out of work for eight months.

A budding musician, she went busking and wrote her song Give Me A Job to voice her despair at the difficulty of finding employment, despite her three A-levels.

Sherika has now found a job in a supermarket, not as a result of her song, but something which allows her to support herself while developing her music career.

She spoke to BBC News about the difficulties faced by people of her generation, and the value she felt after getting a job.
