Driverless cars: UK rules explained

"Real world" tests of driverless cars can begin immediately on UK roads, the government has announced.

The Department for Transport has published a set of rules that it says will allow the UK to become a world leader in driverless technology.

Crucially, a "test driver" must be responsible for any automated car until the technology matures, the report confirms.

The government will later give guidance on how MOTs and car insurance will be affected by the technology.
