China and Taiwan in trade talks
China's President Xi Jinping meets the head of Taiwan's ruling party on Monday in the highest level talks between the two sides since 2009.
Taiwan's Nationalist Party, also known as the Kuomintang, was last re-elected in 2008, and it's been pushing for closer economic ties with the mainland.
But that's raised concerns the party is too close to Beijing, setting off protests in Taiwan. It also contributed to the government's sharp defeat in local elections in November.
