Airport shops 'should pass on VAT savings'

The government is calling on airport shops to pass on VAT savings to customers, after it emerged some stores are adding the sum to their profits.

Items such as clothes and toiletries that are taken outside the EU are exempt from VAT; retailers don't have to pay it, if they can produce evidence such as the scan of a boarding pass.

But it has emerged that some shops don't pass on that saving to the customer.

Emma Simpson reports.
