Sainsbury's chief executive on staff 4% pay rise

It is the supermarket chain that promises to help us "live well for less". But now Sainsbury's has decided to pay its staff a little more.

The retailer is raising its basic hourly wage from £7.08 to £7.36 from the end of August.

That is an increase of 4%, above the government's National Living Wage of £7.20, which comes into force April 2016.

It brings the company more in line with the retail industry average of £7.30 an hour.

The BBC's Steph McGovern spoke to Sainsbury's chief executive Mike Coupe and asked him how this rise compared to wage increases in previous years.
