Traffic to the Ucas exam hub website causes the site to crash

A-level passes have risen for the 29th year in a row as teenagers face an intense battle for university places.

Results show the overall pass rate is up slightly, but for the first time in 15 years there has been no increase in the total proportion getting A or A* grades.

The Ucas Track website, where teenagers track university offers, was taken down for a period on Thursday when demand rose four-fold compared with last year.

Ucas are also using a digital hub called Ucas Connect for the first time, where students can contact them for advice via social networking sites.
