Mixed results for A-level students at Newcastle College

Hundreds of thousands of teenagers are getting their A-level results amid an intense battle for university places ahead of tuition fee rises next year.

Statistics released on Thursday morning show the overall pass rate is up slightly, but for the first time in 15 years there has been no increase in the total proportion getting A or A* grades.

The university clearing system on the Ucas website experienced problems due to a huge demand from students trying to secure places.

The BBC's Jenny Hill spoke to students at Newcastle College about their results.
