Maggie Atkinson: Illegal school exclusions a 'safety risk'

The unofficial, illegal exclusion of children from schools is posing a safety risk, according to the children's commissioner for England.

In a new report, Maggie Atkinson says schools should be heavily fined if they falsify registers to cover up such exclusions and head teachers should face existing sanctions of prosecution.

Ms Atkinson warned that many parents were unaware that the practice is illegal.
