Councils call for powers over troubled schools

Powers to intervene in troubled schools should be returned to local authorities or public confidence in the education system may be at risk, according to councils.

Authorities felt "powerless" under the current system, with responsibility split between ministers and councils, the Local Government Association (LGA) said.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Councillor David Simmonds from the LGA, said that councils needed powers to intervene quickly when there were concerns raised about a school.
