Labour's Harry Leslie Smith: I didn't have a childhood

RAF veteran Harry Leslie Smith, who moved delegates at the Labour Party conference to tears with an impassioned speech about the NHS, has spoken to students about his childhood.

In the conference speech, the 91-year-old former RAF veteran talked about his family's poverty and how his sister had tuberculosis.

He continued to talk about his early life growing up, speaking to students on BBC Radio 5 live's Afternoon Edition.

He told 17-year-old student Afzara, from Heartlands Sixth Form in Birmingham that he "didn't have a childhood" as he had to start work aged seven.
