Maxine Peake on Northerner accent acting struggle
Actress Maxine Peake has revealed she faced difficulties and was "put in a box" because of her Northern accent when she first started acting.
The Bolton born actress, who was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, says she initially only offered "good time girl" roles.
But her acting career has grown and after starring in Dinnerladies, Shameless and Criminal Justice she is returning to television screens in a new BBC drama, Silk.
You can read an interview with Maxine on the BBC TV Blog.
Silk begins on Tuesday 15 May at 9pm on BBC One.
